Stress Point Wk 10: Spiritual Maturity

Friends!! It is week ten and I must say that I’m such a proud “older sister” in seeing and hearing how God has moved through your lives this summer. Wow. Thank you for being vulnerable. Thank you for being real and laying it all out on the line. Thank you for allowing me to pour into your life. This has been a true dream come true for me: to be able to connect with young adult women and REALLY do life with you–even if it is online!

**PLEASE know that if you haven’t finished the chapters yet or you want to go back and review, I will have the archives to the Stress Point Online Study on the navigation bar drop down under Stress Point in pink. Take your time and soak in the WORD then come back here and share your thoughts. I’m always around to respond to your comments!

This week–Spiritual Maturity.

The Real (Video Blog)

The Raw (Discussion Questions)

~What girlfriend case study do you relate to most and why?

~In the first few pages of Stress Point chapter 10 (and in the video blog above) I listed out our working definition of Spiritual Maturity. What stands out to you the most? What aspect is most difficult for you?

~What are your thoughts about the idea that if we are not in constant motion toward the Throne of our King, moving towards Jesus, we are moving away from Him? Even a stagnant faith is seen as moving away from Jesus. This is not meant to discourage you, but to open your eyes that sometimes, our faith is stagnant.

The Relevant (Bible Study Discussion Questions)

~Take some time to re-read Worshiping At The Throne starting on page 222. I just LOVE this name of God: Adonai, Master. What are your thoughts on worshipping our God as our master? In this day and age this word is a bit negative. But based on the Bible, we so desperately need our loving, merciful Adonai, Master.

~We also discussed an “out of our comfort zone” type of worship. I so wish you could see how my sweet friend Lilly dances in praise to her King. (see girlfriend case study)  How can you break out of your comfort zone in your worship of your Adonai?

~On page 229 of Stress Point I mention Psalm 107:21-22):

Oh, that men would give thanks to the Lord for His goodness, And for His wonderful works to the children of men!

Let them sacrifice the sacrifices of thanksgiving,And declare His works with rejoicing.

What are your thoughts on Sacrifice of Thanksgiving (see page 229) and how can you replace and attitude of grumbling and complaining with that of praise to your King?

Okie Dokie, can’t wait to hear what you think. I will be checking in with more posts this week and an awesome Girlfriend Interview with my dear, awesome friend Wendy. I know you will love her.

Leave your thoughts and answers to the questions or anything, really, in this chapter. Let’s chat!

Stress Point Wk 10: Spiritual Maturity — 34 Comments

  1. Sarah , what a great video blog again!:) I’ll miss those so much!:(

Here’s a few things I wanted to say:

About Spiritual maturity I think the most important things are:

    – to set a time with God and to read His Word everyday
    – to get involved in a Church
    – to surround yourself with Godly friends

And I totally agree with you about having a Mentor , I couldn’t recommend it enough.I have a French Mentor Véronique and an American one Sarah ( or should I say Texan!:))And let me tell you what a blessing they are , I share my prayer request , my pain, my joys and my struggles with them, and they can pass on some of their amazing Godly wisdom to me!:)I also recently asked a friend of mine, another Sarah from Texas ( haha I know sooo many Sarahs I know!:)) to be my prayer partner so we can pray for each other often.
Having people that encourage you in your daily walk with the Lord is vital to the Christian life and to spiritual maturity I think.

Anway , all this might be just boring I don’t know but I just thought I’d share!

  2. ~What girlfriend case study do you relate to most and why?

Lily’s I am not ballarina but i love to dance for Jesus!! (by myself) especially to slow songs!! I used to figure skate and i can just imagine myself out there figureskating to I can only imagine!!

  3. I can’t believe this is the last week of our study! It went by so fast! I’m delighted to have had this opportunity to learn and live out God’s Word with all of you wonderful ladies. Sarah, thank you for your awesome book and study. This has been the most important summer of my life!

~What are your thoughts on Sacrifice of Thanksgiving (see page 229) and how can you replace and attitude of grumbling and complaining with that of praise to your King?

I love the concept of sacrifice of thanksgiving. Yes, we should ALWAYS praise Jesus, regardless of our mood, as He blesses us in many ways. In life, we’re going to face tough situations, but they help us grow and form an even closer relationship with Him.

I recently read an article that talked about having a plan for prayer. It broke it down like so:

    A – adoration
    C – confession
    T – thanksgiving
    S – supplication (requests)

I’ve been struggling to find a job, but still thank the Lord several times each day. I have a loving family and basic necessities of life. I’m actually grateful for this time, because my relationship with God has significantly grown and will continue to grow every day. I’ve also learned the importance of trusting Him (Proverbs 3:5-6).

    • Bree-thank you so much for sharing how this book and study has impacted you this summer. Praise Jesus! Yes!!

Awesome thoughts and ACTS is a great way to pray! So glad that you shared this!

  4. I relate most to Sarah by sometimes turning to earthly things rather than Jesus to relieve stress. The definition of spiritual maturity that stands out to me the most is “questioning Jesus” because I’ve always been told to never question Him. Sometimes, during tough times, I can’t help but question “why?”

“Even a stagnant faith is seen as moving away from Jesus.” That is something that I had not looked at in that way before – interesting. As for page 222, I’m one that doesn’t like the feeling of losing control, but I have comfort in knowing that my Adonai is the One with ultimate control.

A mentor. That’s exactly what I need and something I’m praying about!

    • Jessica! I look at questioning God this way…if we are questioning Him this is an open communication line with God and I really believe that He desires open communication. If we just shut that door and move on rather than let Him speak into our doubts and “whys?” then we miss out on God pouring His ultimate wisdom into our lives. God is not turned off or scared by our questions and doubts. So glad that this stood out to you because I think it is one big thing that hampers the faith of many Christians: when they feel like they can’t question and wrestle with God.

      • I see! Questioning God is a new concept for me – I just always thought it’s God’s will. Period. Accept it. Move on without question. Thanks for bringing this up and for the new perspective!

  5. The girlfriend study case I identify the most with is Lilly’s , I love to dance for my king although I’m no trained dancer , I loved being part of the dance workshop during my Church’s VBS this year, it was awesome to see kids dancing for Jesus their heart out!

  6. Jessica :
That ‘s awesome who’d love to have a Mentor , it’s been such a blessing in my life!:)
if you would allow me I’d love to let you know how I chose mines if would like , anyway here’s my thoughts if you want to take any of them:

    – praying is very good , it’s the key starting point
    – then look around for someone slighly older girl /woman , who’s faith is proven very strong and who has a godly walk of life.
    – My 2 Mentors were great older friends first, then I asked them to be my ” official” Mentors.I think it’s a great thing that you’re already friends with them and know who they are , that you can trust them, I think you also need to feel completely comfortable with that person and you both need to really enjoy each other’s compagny
    – Lastly , I would say prayer should show you approuval from God for that choice , then comfirmation from other godly believers is also important. For my French Mentor : my Mom confirmed that choice, for my American one , a missionary from my Church said to me when I told her who was my other Mentor “That’s a very good Mentor!”
So any other thoughts? I love the subject of Mentoring , I’m passionate about it!:)OK I think I’m gonna stop here and continue that in a blog series!:)

  7. ~In the first few pages of Stress Point chapter 10 (and in the video blog above) I listed out our working definition of Spiritual Maturity. What stands out to you the most? What aspect is most difficult for you? This one thing stands out to me the most.. Has a heart that sees its faults and readily owns up to its mistakes knowing she is forgiven because Jesus loved her so much that he died on the cross for her. Its a good remidner for me.. I can put my name in her and personalize it!

This one is most difficult Loves others more than herself becasue she knows we are all created and loved by our almighty king. I have a very hard time loving others more than myself especially when they are mean, rude to me/others.. I feel like they dont deserve to be liked.

    • Meg–I love your authenticity, girlfriend. What you said about loving others–I just know we all feel like that sometimes yet we never admit it! I totally hear you on that. It just takes time and prayer and a heart for Jesus.

      Hugs!

  8. I really loved this chapter! It was encouraging at challenging at the same time. I was especially challenged by the definition of spiritual maturity. As far as which part stuck out to me the most, it was two of the points. The first one was having a heart that sees and accepts faults and knowing that I am forgiven. It is easy for me to see my faults, but knowing I am forgiven is important too. Also, recognizing that questions are healthy. This study is helping me to see that I am dealing with things that many other people are dealing with, and that is OK.

    • Girl, you are so not alone in your “stress points!” So glad that God is speaking to you via Stress Point! And yes, forgiving yourself can be a toughie. Let God pour His mercy into your heart and allow yourself, daily, to receive it! Hugs!
