Everybody Is WAITING

Waiting. Wait. Sit still. Be still. Don’t move. Just stay put.

These are words and phrases that don’t typically sit well with me. And, from the many conversations I’ve had in person, on Facebook and through reader emails, many of you are being told by the Lord to just sit and WAIT. Waiting is not always fun. I wrote a post on this very topic a year ago. Funny how God works…

A couple of friends recently expressed their life situation as feeling stuck. Like they are not going anywhere in life and feel like they are spinning wheels. It is so easy to look at the lives of our friends or co-workers or family members and think that they have it all together and that life is moving and shaking for them. It is even easier to hop on Facebook and check out everyone’s seemingly “perfect” life as they post their latest pics of a fabulous vacation, job upgrade, new love interest…when really it is seriously easy to edit our Facebook profiles to make it seem like life is peachy. All the meanwhile, we wait…we sit still…we be still…we don’t move…we stay put…

Let me encourage you in your waiting and your staying put. If you feel like God has laid it on your heart to simply wait on Him and His direction, you must obey! If you feel like you don’t have answers to your questions or life is at a standstill, God isn’t sitting on His hands. He is moving in your life whether or not you see it. It is our job to search Him out daily through His Word and in conversation via prayer. Those who obey God when He tells them to wait will be rewarded.

What I would love to say to you now, while you are waiting and in a holding pattern:  be intentional about living your life TODAY. Yes there is a time and place to plan for the future, but in times of feeling direction-less, put your main focus on just living in God’s presence TODAY.  If we love God with all that we have TODAY, then day by day He will reveal where He is taking us.

If I’ve quoted this verse once, I’ve quoted it a million times. I encourage you, too, to commit Proverbs 3:5-6

Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.

So, while you are not alone in your waiting, it is up to you alone to approach the throne of YOUR King and sit still, wait and trust that He is taking you right where you need to be. If we jump ahead and make things happen on our own, we risk missing out on that perfect plan God has laid out and tailored just for us. Don’t miss out! Wait!

  1. thank you for this, sweet girl! never in my life have i felt more compelled by the Lord to wait and i must say that being obedient has been so difficult. i like to take control of things myself and in some cases, we can only witness God’s glory when we allow HIM to take the reigns. thank you for the encouragement to not rush things. to focus on the present. to fully love God and allow Him to reveal Himself to me not when the waiting is over and He reveals His plan, but while I wait to see it unfold.
miss you – in so pines next weekend if you are around! love!

  2. I don’t like waiting, which is why God has me in my present circumstance, so I’ll learn patience and to fully trust Him. Sarah, I love that image but couldn’t find it on your Pinterest page. Will it be added?

      • So hard to believe an entire year has gone by since we did our Stress Point study! It was my first Bible study and had such an impact on me. I’m now leading a small group study on Facebook for Stressed-Less Living. I’m loving it!

        Awesome, thanks so much!

^^^ this. I feel trapped. It’s kind of the same thing. It’s really hard to feel like God is working because it seems all I ever do is wait. Every time something does change it’s minuscule.
However, I’ve been trying to change my perspective. It’s not easy. I made a list of everything that has changed this year and its longer now in June than I thought it’d be at the end of the year. I still waiting for that to translate to my heart though.

  4. Such a timely post for me! I was just talking with my coworkers about how at times I feel stuck and recently I have been feeling stuck but I am learning to rejoice with those who are moving forward and things are happening for them. Rejoicing with my friends has kept me from going down a long road of discouragement. The verse you quoted is my “life” verse. I constantly remind myself of what God says in that verse. I personalize it as well. Thank you, Sarah for sharing these words today! it is an encouragement!

  5. God Blessed you with the mind and soul to write encouraging words of the Lord. I love the bible verse and the ideas you put forth in your blog. You are so right about sitting still and waiting to hear God’s wishes for us.You know I don’t do this very well but with your words I will try try try to sit still and wait.

  6. Oh my goodness Sarah! This is exactly what I’ve been talking about for the past week or so! I’m so glad I’m not alone in this! VERY encouraging! Jesus is STILL on the throne!

  7. Heya great blog! Does running a blog similar to this require a large amount of work? I have no expertise in computer programming but I had been hoping to start my own blog soon. Anyway, should you have any ideas or techniques for new blog owners please share. I know this is off subject nevertheless I just had to ask. Many thanks!|
