Well it is Friday, I finally have my life schedule worked out, and it feels just right to start THE LIST again each Friday. In the past, this has been a fun way to hear from YOU and get to know quirky stuff about ya.

The List

I will post a random assortment of questions and give my random assortment of personal answers. Sometimes they are TMI, sometimes really legit, and sometimes just flat out fun. Will you do the same? I would love to hear from you!

So here we go…

~The obligatory deserted island question…In addition to your Bible, (you know, ’cause we are such good Jesus girls right? ;)) What is one thing you just have to have if you were stranded on a deserted island to keep you entertained?

Me: Since we are just talking about entertainment and since there’s no way to technically include the television, I would have to say my art supplies. Specifically I would love my watercolors since there’s obviously an abundance of water around. Would be fun to splash around some color while working on my tan and praying for a ship to come rescue me.

~What’s one thing God is teaching you in this season?

Me: This was a summer of transition for our family as we moved from North Carolina to Texas. Lots of stress on our family, but we have had a grand time exploring our new/old city. (We’ve lived here before!) Honestly, I’ve learned some tough lessons in the “thou shalt submit to your husband” zone of the Bible. It’s legit. My husband is a godly man who seeks after the Lord and SOMEONE needs to be the leaders. So, I’m glad it is him! Not always fun but I know deep down that God will bless the submitting.

~What is one of your favorite ways to worship the Lord these days?

Me: Getting some instrumental music going and messing around with my paints. I’m learning that yes worship is singing and praise, but there is worship in any thing we do when we turn our affection toward making much of Him. Yes!

I think I will keep it at 3 questions this week since 2 out of 3 are pretty deep questions!

Leave your list! Can’t wait to read…

Words Have Great Power #BEMORE book review

I received this fun book in the mail the other day and can’t wait to share it with you. #BEMORE: 77 Secrets to a Powerful Life by Sandi Krakowski  is a small book packed with a punch. I plan on keeping it in my car for encouragement during car line-school pickup.

Secret #12 Words Have Great Power

It starts with a seed. A single thought.

Before we know it, this thought has taken root and we begin to believe it; we buy into it. Soon this thought has consumed our hearts and minds. It takes over and begins a process of distruction and despair. These words that start the cycle can come from others or they can be messages we tell ourselves.

I remember my own struggles with this. I still recall the excruciatingly painful words spoken over me–the kind that make your knees cave and your heart sink. I remember accepting those words into my mind, then watching them grow from seeds of self-doubt into complete absence of hope. Eventually, I collapsed and lost all desire for life.

A new thought.

A new seed.

A new root.

As His light appeared through the shadows, I could feel Him again. Jesus walked into the room and said, “You are going to make it through this and will tell millions of people.”

In my broken state, I replied, “I can’t even talk to myself with out pain in my heart. How on earth will I ever talk to millions of people?”

He simply told me, “You will. Trust me.”

Trust is difficult, especially when you are trusting for a complete reversal of the situation you are in and of the mindset you have. It is a cycle. We repeat what we focus on. We plant seeds every day. We are gardeners, you and I. And guess what?

We can refuse to allow some sees to take root! We can take our tools and say, “I reject that! I don’t receive that!” Being the master gardeners that we are, we can choose, with an acto of our free will, to NOT let those thoughts take root in our lives.

Words have great power, and just as the single negative thought brought you down, this single positive thought–Jesus is with me!–will life you up out of the the darkness and give life to a new way of thinking and speaking.

Speak His truth. Plant the seed and tell yourself you are ready to Be More. (EXCERPT used with permission)

This excerpt reminds me to cling to this truth and speak this truth out just ask Sandi encouraged us to do:

“Be strong and courageous. Do not fear or be in dread of them, for it is the LORD your God who goes with you. He will not leave you or forsake you.” Deuteronomy 31:6

GIVEAWAY! Leave a comment with your thoughts on what Truth from Scripture you need to speak aloud today. I will pick a random winner on FRIDAY.

For When You’ve Got Nothin’

This is the week. Yes. This is the week I would pound out so so so many words to inspire and uplift and point to the goodness of God. We are back to our routine. Though we are in a new town, starting a new school with my son, in a new home (starting to actually feel like home!), the routine is the same and it feels glorious.

I sit here in my new little art and writing room in an old chair with an old blanket and old laptop and

I’ve got nothin’.

So instead of trying to put forth something for the sake of just blogging I thought I would share a prayer I’ve had all summer. For those of us who need inspiration. For those of us who feel there is nothing new. For those of us who know they need to just move forward into something though they don’t know what that some thing is. Will you find a quiet space, sit with your hands open and utter these words with me?

Lord, we sit with open hands asking (maybe even begging) for that which can only come from You. We need refreshment and revival and courage and newness. Your Word says there is nothing new under the sun. So God, because You spoke everything under the sun into existence, we ask for an outpouring of inspiration. Lord, we want our lives to count. To mean something. So with open hands, we pray for inspiration to create, to work, to mother, to relate, to comfort, to encourage. Lord, do Your thing in us and through us. With open hands we welcome Your Spirit to move because we know that any movement from You is more fruitful than anything we can conjure up ourselves. We will give You all the glory, Jesus! Amen!

Nothing fancy. But there is something to be said for knowing that you aren’t alone in the feeling of “nothin’.” Let’s link arms together with palms open ready to receive from our ever good, merciful, loving God. Go forth today in confidence that He is doing things in you and through you and YOU matter to HIM.

Come back Friday! I’m bringing back THE LIST!
