Emotions Part 2

Last week I wrote The King Can Handle My Emotions in an effort to touch on how and why I take my anger — and feelings in general — to the King, Jesus.  A sweet blog reader of mine, LyTysha, asked this great question and I’m confident that others have the same feelings.  Here is what she had to say:

“Dialogue with God has always been a struggle for me. When I am mad, sad, angry, happy….I just….can’t seem to find the way to express how I feel to God (and others… I struggle with expressing emotions to others as well). How do I get myself away from this so that I can truly have the FULL relationship with God, dialogue and all?”

I think any thriving relationship requires constant communication.  Our King is always there, always ready to converse with us.  It is our prerogative to show up to the throne for the dialogue.

What blows my mind is the sheer juxtaposition of an all powerful almighty King as described in Revelation 19 where Jesus appears:

I saw heaven standing open and there before me was a white horse, whose rider is called Faithful and True. With justice he judges and wages war. His eyes are like blazing fire, and on his head are many crowns. He has a name written on him that no one knows but he himself.

He is dressed in a robe dipped in blood, and his name is the Word of God. The armies of heaven were following him, riding on white horses and dressed in fine linen, white and clean. Coming out of his mouth is a sharp sword with which to strike down the nations. “He will rule them with an iron scepter.” He treads the winepress of the fury of the wrath of God Almighty. On his robe and on his thigh he has this name written:

KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS.  (Rev. 19: 11-16)

This all powerful, mighty Jesus who will wipe out His enemy if He so chooses also has a soft, tender side that desires to hear your voice and share in every thought crossing your mind.

I bring up these characteristics of Christ to illustrate just WHO we have access to on a minute by minute, day by day basis and I hope this thought blows your mind just like it does mine.

So, to those of my friends having a hard time expressing their emotions to the LORD like my friend LyTysha, I have one simple answer for you. Through out your day, as these things spring up…

If your heart hearts because a loved one lashed out at you…

If you are seriously frustrated at a coworker who didn’t meet their deadline…

If you feel as if you failed because you gave into the craving of chocolate that you swore you wouldn’t eat…

If you are just plain tired…

If you are just plain lonely…

If you are just plain angry…

Take it straight to the King.  Maybe even write it out if that helps you.  But the key is to start the dialogue and allow Him the opportunity to prove Himself trustworthy with your raw emotions.  The LORD will not laugh and He will not disregard your hurt heart.

I would love to hear more ideas that might help those like LyTysha so share it and lets encourage each other to develop a more intimate, personal relationship with our King.

Emotions Part 2 — 4 Comments

  1. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU FOR THIS POST! :) And I feel absolutely blessed that you took my question and made such a great and Biblical answer to it. You have no idea how appreciative I am.

I have been trying this for the past couple of days now, and while it’s hard, I am just going to keep persevering in telling God EVERYTHING. I have been dialoguing with God throughout my day, even when I am in work and in class and I feel amazing about it. Whether I am telling Him good things or bad things, I know He is listening. I just need to learn how to hear His voice (any suggestions there?)

    Thank you again, Sarah!

    • I’m so stoked that this post spoke to you and I thank you for sharing your feelings with me in the first place! I do want to address your question about hearing God’s voice as it is a great question. Stay tuned for a future post on this!
