One more peek at a page in my journal as I ponder Psalm 145…
One generation shall commend your works to another, and shall declare your mighty acts. On the glorious splendor of your majesty, and on your wondrous works, I will meditate. They shall speak of the might of your awesome deeds…They shall pour forth the fame of your abundant goodness… (Psalm 145:4-7)
We search for a purpose––a way to make a lasting difference. By searching out God, knowing Him and living day by day in TRUE worship, our lives will automatically express God’s glory. This manifests itself in acts of service to others or exclamations of Truth in a hostile world where truth is relevant. Each person makes up their own meaning of truth. But if we, a generation after God’s own heart, are passionate about declaring God’s unfathomable acts which are meant for the benefit of all creation, we must stand up. We must loudly exclaim the Truth and really know our stuff. But that loud exclamation must be tempered in love.
The underlying motivation of this generational movement is so counter-cultural that it will garner the attention of those who crave something more than the one dimensional philosophy of the world around them. This motivation is to “ pour forth the fame” of our King. To Give God the credit rather than bask in our own self perceived greatness and accomplishments.
But really, this takes the pressure off of ourselves to perform and self promote for there is ONE whose fame is so substantial. Though the “fifteen minutes of fame” clock ticks away for those seeking individual accolades, it is God’s fame that will remain renown through out all generations.
Let us stand up and declare Christ as King as one generation who stands on true Truth. Let us show the world the myriad of ways God’s fame is pronounced in our lives. Let us help those around us say aloud My God, My King!
Love this! The part where you wrote that we must “loudly exclaim the Truth and really know our stuff” totally hit me. I have been so convicted lately that I have been skimping on my Bible time because I’ve been reading so many great books, and, even though they are wonderful, uplifting works by women after God’s heart, nothing can measure up to the power in God’s word or the closeness you develop with Him by reading it. I need to remember that I will be so much better equipped to stand up and exclaim Him as Truth if I have His words hidden in my heart. Thank you for this!
Brittany,
You are not alone in getting emersed in reading good books and slipping away from the Bible. There ARE so many great books out there and it is easy to just read these resources. The important thing is that you realize where you have gone a bit astray and you know what you need to do to reconnect with Jesus. Thanks for the authenticity girl!
Sarah, I love this! My favorite line: “pour forth the fame”. That’s what our life goal should be! To pour out the fame of God and to let His glory be known!
Thank you for inspiring me today!
Tay,
I have to be honest. I have to remind myself daily to “pour forth the fame.” It is so easy to get caught up in my own world and get caught up in myself. I often smack myself in the head and say “get over yourself, Sarah!” Ha! Thanks so much for stopping by!
I love this and think you should do an entire journaling series! :) Just an idea!
I was actually thinking about it and you just convinced me :). In all honest, most of my posts are from my journal except I re-write them in a different format. But, it is so easy for me to just transcribe what I’ve written and I like to be transparent so I think I just might do this. Stay tuned…
