I’ve expressed many times on this blog my love for politics. I get a kick out of Election Night and all of the hoopla leading up to it. A certain “fair and balanced” news network is the only news source allowed in m y house and the thought of two women potentially running for president thrills me to no end. I am a political junkie.
But even I get disillusioned at the state of our country and politics from time to time. During our Fourth of July service at church we prayed fervently for the state of our country and I couldn’t help but think of the many young adults who, like me, are frustrated and pessimistic about where our country stands as a whole.
I have one verse in the Bible in which I always turn to when ranting and raving about things far beyond my realm of influence. Though we all should get involved and at the very least vote, there are political happenings that we have absolutely no control over. This verse in the book of Daniel keeps it in perspective for me.
Daniel 2:20-23
20Daniel answered and said:
“Blessed be the name of God forever and ever,
to whom belong wisdom and might.
21 He changes times and seasons;
he removes kings and sets up kings;
he gives wisdom to the wise
and knowledge to those who have understanding;
22 he reveals deep and hidden things;
he knows what is in the darkness,
and the light dwells with him.
23To you, O God of my fathers,
I give thanks and praise,
for you have given me wisdom and might,
and have now made known to me what we asked of you,
for you have made known to us the king’s matter.”
***the state of the national debt …GOD KNOWS.
***the state of your personal debt…GOD KNOWS.
***the corrupt happenings in Washington…GOD KNOWS.
***the high number of people without work…GOD KNOWS.
***the state of your personal lack of work…GOD KNOWS.
He knows and it is all in His control. Nothing that happens behind secretive closed doors in Washington is out of reach for our LORD. It is easy for young adults to sit back in frustration and not do anything – to throw up our hands in surrender. But, it doesn’t have to be this way. You have a future that God planned out before any of the influential politicians ever dreamed of throwing their hat in the race. You have a chance to make a difference so don’t sit back and watch the world happen to you. Rather, put your future in the hands of our God who is all-mighty and all-knowing.
Will you join me in trusting Him?
Will you join me in continuing to pray for our nation?
Will you be a part of a generation that refuses to live apathetically?
I will now step off my soapbox. {smiles}
Amen, amen, and amen! A certain “fair and balanced” news network is the only one airing in *my* household, too, so this had me smiling from the very beginning.
Thank you for sharing these verses. It is encouraging to know that, well, He KNOWS!
Thanks for getting up on that soapbox. :)
I’m glad you appreciated my antics–ahem–soapbox! :)
So very true and I happen to love politics as well..
I always keep this line of a song in my mind though, because sometimes my political views don’t match up with other Christians…and it’s this “politics will decide if we should rise and be His hands and feet.” from Solution by Hillsong. Just a random though i’d throw into the mix :)
Great stuff, LyTysha! That line from the Hillsong song is very interesting. Thanks for “throwning that into the mix!”

Great post! I too watch the same channel! lol And over the past three years have really dove head first into being a political junkie. :)
I love it…but I get more passionate about it than I should at times. I love the verses you quoted in this post from Daniel. They keep me grounded when I feel things are going all wrong in the political world. I’m with you friend! Praying that my trust is in the Lord and praying for this nation and all it’s leaders.
Love this post, Sarah! Politics has always been a passion of mine (there’s a video of me as a toddler sitting on the couch….at one point, my mom shoots the camera over to me and asks what i’m doing. in a tiny little voice, i say “stop, mom! im watching dan quayle!”) but sometimes i become way too passionate and forget that Christ really is in control. This was a very, very much needed reminder as election season (my olympics) takes off!
This was really helpful..just heard a sermon similar to this today…about how as Christians we often feel like we need to have justice, but in the end, God is going to have control over matters that are out of our realm to control and influence. We can still be aware, still be active and still help others, etc..I am thankful people have concerns in certain areas, like you have a strong interest in politics, etc…I believe we do need that, but I am also so grateful that your lasting hope and such a strong witness and afterthought you leave with people in the end is to leave at His feet the things we are unable to move and shake. I’ve grown up around a lot of “political warriors” so to speak, which left a bad taste in my mouth at times. It can be a difficult balance, but again, thank you for your wisdom in times I’ve read your words on here about these topics with a Scriptural lens. It’s good to talk about.
So, I’m just coming across your page from SheSeeks over at P31. I just have to say, I am not into politics but I very much agree with this post!!! Also, I struggle with fear and the state of our country almost always pours me a big glass of it that I have to pass along to my savior because you are right…He knows!!! Thank you for this post, I have been very encouraged and felt a sense of relief to know He’s got it!
Much love and prayers!!
Juanita
Oh cool! So glad you were incouraged to “get into” political things. :)
