Dude. Raise your hand if you are stoked that it is FRIDAY?? I sure am. This week I posted some fun words on my friend Lynn Cowell’s blog. I would love for you to check it out and share with your family… How To Love On Your Young Adult This Holiday Season. Lynn is also giving away a copy of my book Stress Point! Go check it out…
In light of that post regarding family, The List this week is…How To Love Your Family This Holiday Season. I wrote a whole chapter in Stress Point about Friends and Family. During holidays like Thanksgiving and Christmas, hightened emotions and prolonged time with family might stress us out. Here’s a few things to keep in mind…
~Show some R.E.S.P.E.C.T. Even though we are now adults, we are still commanded in the Bible (The Ten Commandments) to honor our mother and father. It can be tough, but will decrease drama during the holidays.
~Help cook the big family meal. A great way to get some QT with your mom, your dad, your aunt or whoever is the head chef this year.
~Be present and put away the smart phone. Enough said.
~Rough house with your younger siblings, cousins, nieces or nephews. By tuckering them out, they will surly go to be early. Their mom and dad will love you for it!
~Sit down and ask grandma, grandpa or great Aunt Sally to tell you a story from the “old days.” You will be glad you did years later when you can appreciate your family roots.
Okie dokie. That’s my list. What’s YOURS? How are you going to love on your family this Thanksgiving or Christmas? Leave a comment…
OK.. Here is my list…..
For thanksgiving I will be with my dad and stepmom
1. Ask is she needs any help with setting the table or cooking.
2. talk to relatives i am awfully quiet and shy especially around my stepmoms relatives
3. During Christmas at my mom and at thanksgiving put the phone away!
4. During Christmas at my moms ask if she needs help
5. play a game with my family or just my mom
This Thanksgiving we will be with our son, his two children, his girlfriend, her three children at her mother house. It’s a whole new adventure for us since our son is divorced but not one we cannot find the Lord in.
So here goes on my list in light of the circumstances.
1. Take a gift for the hostess.
2.Help as much as I am allowed.
3 Be interested in their family traditions, do not talk about our so much.
4. Help watch the kids when needed.
5. Give thanks that day for all God has provided.
I love Fridays, too! I really enjoyed your post on Lynn’s site. :)
