I think there is a good kind of greedy….Greedy for more of God’s presence.

How lovely is your dwelling place,
O LORD of hosts!
My soul longs, yes, faints
for the courts of the LORD;
my heart and flesh sing for joy
to the living God.
Blessed are those who dwell in your house,
ever singing your praise!
For a day in your courts is better
than a thousand elsewhere.
{Psalm 84:1,2,4,10}
I think this is a good kind of greedy. Don’t you?
Leave me your thoughts…
Most definitely agree with this!
Yes, I want to dwell in the house of the Lord forever and ever…wanting more! :)
Greed for God is good, as long as greed doesn’t turn into obsession. Maybe “Thrive” or “Longing” are better choice words.
We see too many people become obsessed on The Word and God’s gifts, turning and twisting The Word into something that it is NOT (hate). This turns the lost away from God’s real gift, L-O-V-E.
Let’s be greedy and thrive on God’s love, but all in moderation and in just the perfect amount :)
Ashley,
I do like your alternative words to use. For some reason greedy just popped out to me. I see what you are talking about when you say, “all in moderation” but I have to disagree a tiny bit. I totally think it is ok to be almost obsessed with wanting more of Jesus’ presence IF and only IF we are out in the world spreading His love and not hoarding it away. So very glad you joined in on this convo…just what I wanted to get started. You gave me some great things to think about. I did a personal Bible study this weekend that shed more light on this concept and will share next week.
Major Hugs your way!
Sarah
Really interesting thought, Sarah. I think greedy is good when it means wanting to know more, to understand more, to feel more. And at the same time, we’re working to balance that greed with being grateful for the relationship we have with Christ.
Being greedy for the love of Christ is is powerful as long as it is a generous kind of greed: a greed that craves Christ’s love not only for yourself, but for everyone in our community and our world. Greed for a love that can’t be kept to yourself, greed for a love that must be shared and spread and a Gospel story that must be told.
I would be so interested, Sarah, to hear more on this! Thanks for inspiring some fantastic thought.
Sarah!
You are so very right about being greedy for everyone to know about Jesus and not keeping His love to ourselves! Going to dive into this next week…stay tuned!
Hi Sarah. It’s my first time on your blog – this is from Carrie, one of Greg’s aunts :) . Here are my little comments on this topic. The word “greedy” doesn’t set well with me when used as a word to describe desire for Gods word. A deeply felt devotion to the word can strengthen and direct us, encourage us, and build us up. To be “greedy” doesn’t work for mr here. I’d be more inclined to use words like ‘deeply felt passion for”. Or intense longing for” instead, Thanks for letting me contribute. Love to you, Greg, and Grayson!
I love this thought of being greedy for His presence!! Being greedy for His presence and being filled with Him, I then become overflowing in His love so that ALL I want to do is SHARE with everyone I know! When I’m greedy and become full, I am nicer, I love more, I have more energy to give to those around me, I’m patient, I’m kind, I’m filled with joy! Being greedy for more of God is where we all should be! Craving it, longing for it, striving to be there every single day of our lives! I don’t know about you, but I’ve never met anyone who was full of God’s love and then they kept it all to them self…when you’re actually filled with Him, and filled with that JOY that comes from nowhere but the Holy Spirit Himself, it is IMPOSSIBLE to not share that..with love, with smiles, with hugs, with kindness…you want everyone you know to know that SAME LOVE!! And, i just can’t be in a bad mood no matter what happens in my day…when I’m overflowing with God’s extravagant love, nothing else matters..Love this, Sarah!!
