Introducing THE LIST

Something new for a Friday. Well…this concept is not really new as people have been making lists for thousands of years. I really shouldn’t think I’m super innovative for posting this blog! So…here we go. Every Friday I’m going to toss out a topic. Sometimes it will be silly, sometimes it will be funky, sometimes it will be serious. Who knows where THE LIST will go… Then I will give you my top 5 answers to the topic. YOU will then be invited to share your top 5. Sound fun? Yeah…I thought it sounded fun, too!

THE LIST of 5:

In Stress Point we discussed at length our careers and our dream jobs. How did you answer this question when you were a kid:

“What do you want to be when you grow up?”

Here’s my LIST of 5…

~An Astronaut. Don’t ask me why, I’m afraid of heights and I think a a bit claustrophobic! Maybe I thought the spacesuit was cute??

~A child psychologist. I was bound and determine to help out those kids who felt left out and not in the “cool club.”

~An author…hmmm….Isn’t God so fun?!

~A business woman. I didn’t exactly know what that entailed nor what kind of business I wanted into but I think I fell in love with the idea of wearing power suits everyday. And now I know power suits are super fun to wear only if I don’t have to put on panty hose…good thing that went out of style a decade ago!

~Anyone in charge of anything. I was just plain bossy back then. Wait now that I think about it, I’m still pretty bossy! ha!

Ok YOUR TURN! What’s your LIST of 5??

Introducing THE LIST — 25 Comments

  1. I wanted to be:
    1. A teacher
    2. A secretary…my best friend’s sister was a few years older and that’s what she did and I wanted to be like her.
    3. World traveler. :) I’ve been able to do some world traveling!
    4. Writer/author
    5. Counselor, I like to help people. Plus, who reads the “Birth Order” book in high school and loves it!? I’ve read it two more times since. :) I like to figure out why people respond to certain situations differently.

  2. Let’s see if I can even remember 5 things unwanted to be…

    1. Singer – This was and always my dream. I still feel that pang when I go to a Christian worship concert or hear an awesome singer. I wanna be up there.

    2. Actress – Gotta flare for the dramatic a mile wide.

    3. FBI Agent – You can thank The X Files for that one! LOL!

    4. Counselor – To help those who had gone through painful experiences like I had.

    5. Director of Christian Education – A bonafide youth leader in the Lutheran church, helping youth grow I their faith and helping parents do that.

What do I do now? I’m a DCE who sings in our Praise Team, has an after school drama club, and helps youth who need advice on faith and life. I also get to lead women through my blog. No crime solving, unless you count figuring out what that stain is on the youth room carpet ;).

  3. I wanted to be:
    1) a fire truck – no not a firefighter, my mom says I wanted to be the actual truck! Lol the imagination of a kid right?!

    2) a professional basketball player – yep, I was the athletic girl in school and when the WNBA came around it got me excited because I wouldn’t have to leave my family and friends and go overseas! A couple of knee injuries hampered that though and being sidelined brought me to #3

    3) a basketball coach – having to sit out while I was hurt in high school led me to think, hmm, maybe I’d be a better coach than a player

    4) a research scientist/doctor – sports was my thing, but I was really a “quiet” nerd Lol

    5) a teacher – my mom would always tell me I should be a teacher because I had a natural ability to explain things and help others. My thoughts, “Me? Teacher? No!” But I would keep it in mind.

So, what do I do now? I work for a state health department as an Evaluator, hoping to move up to the ranks or Epidemiologist (studied science lol nerd!). I also help out my old high school coach as an assistant. And about that me being a teacher thing, well my next stop is to become a college professor!

  4. When I was a kid, I wanted to be:

    1. The pink power ranger – She could kick some major booty!
    2. A teacher – Knowledge is power.
    3. A pediatrician – Love kids.
    4. A forensic scientist – Looking at DNA under the microscope is bliss!
    5. Anyone that had super powers and could fly. – Maybe I still want to be this?! :)

  5. I wanted to be:

    1. A Ballerina – I always thought that Ballet dancers where like princesses
    2. An Astronaut – I was and am still amazed about the universe, one of my favorite activities until now is star gazing
    3. A Volleyball player – there is this one cartoon i loved to watch when I was a kid, she was pretty, smart and an amazing volleyball player
    4. A doctor – so I can heal all the sick people
    5. An Environmentalist – back then I didn’t know that word, but I was a “save-the-world” type of kid or I was just plain weird. I guess I watched too much “Captain Planet”

  6. Well sorry to say! But I had one thing that i wanted to be when i Grew up and that was a Marine Biologist. I LOVE dolphins and whales and jsut wanted to interact with them.. But unfortunelty that didnt happen.. I still wish i lived near an aquarium or sea world or something so i could work there!!

  7. I have thought about what I *wanted* to be when I was little in a long time. Let’s see…

    ( 1 ) Librarian – Because I love books and organization. It would’ve been a win-win situation for me!

( 2 ) Paleontologist – As a kiddo I loved to talk about dinosaurs, draw their guts (still have those old disgusting drawings actually) and dig in the dirt all day long every chance I got. I was the kiddo who dreaming about unearthing the next T-Rex or making some new dino discovery.

( 3 ) Archaeologist/Tomb Raider – I wanted nothing more than to be JUST like Indiana Jones & Lara Croft. I loved old things and traveling and digging…and kinda still do.

( 4 ) Writer/Author – I wanted to pen delicious thought-filled words just like Josephine March in Little Women and John Boy in The Walton’s when I grew up.

( 5 ) Musician – I wanted to play the keys and sing my heart out and admittedly I still kinda do!

Yeah, I had pretty lofty ‘n’ geeky ambitions as a kiddo! Now I work in a bookstore (atm) and have started penning my first *actual* novel. =)
