Rearranging, Doing, Soaking

In my last post I confessed that my goals for 2011 needed a bit of rearrangement as I took my goals and replaced my agenda with the simple, yet complicated, goal of glorifying God in everything I do this year.  I mentioned my Type A personality which has now risen again and demands that I DO something for God in light of my new goal aligned with HIS agenda.

To make this short and sweet: the “doing” that I must partake in is to soak in His presence before I do anything that remotely looks like a physical act of serving God or others. Essentially it might look like I’m not doing a darn thing, but in this “not doing” I’m partaking in the most important task we as Christians can participate in: sitting before the King in constant communication while praising Him and soaking up His glory.

I typed in the word, “soak” into a Bible search engine and found the New Living Translation Bible use the word in this one short verse with in Hebrews 6.  Read this metaphor about a farmer’s crop placing yourself in as the field.

Hebrews 6:8 When the ground SOAKS up the falling rain and bears a good crop for the farmer, it has God’s blessing.

Will you join me — a dry and weary crop…

barren of fruit

yearning for a chance to please our Farmer

as we soak in the sweet sweet rain

drop by drop

then, and only then, yield a harvest that warrants this response:

Well done, my good and faithful servant.

  1. Oh wow, this sounds just like the journey God has me on at the moment, the very first blog post I wrote this year was about learning that my main purpose in life is to worship God, the “doing’ part to save the world should flow out of that and I sometimes get that the wrong way around! I have enjoyed reading your thoughts :-)

  2. Thank You So Much! This is definitely what I need to do is just soak in God’s presence more and more and make it a major part of my life. Because it is in the valley on the threshing floor where He tells you His plans for you and you can hear His voice. I mean just one on one you and God! See the devil don’t care about how much work you do for God, He wants to steal your alone time with God because that is where I strength and power and wisdom and guidance comes from. I am so excited! I can’t wait to start this journey of soaking! I will keep you posted about my valley experiences on the threshing floor!

  3. Hi outstanding website! Does running a blog such as this require a lot of work?
I’ve absolutely no expertise in coding but
I was hoping to start my own blog in the near
future. Anyhow, should you have any ideas or tips for new
blog owners please share. I know this is off subject however I
    just had to ask. Cheers!
