Redirecting Focus

Happy Friday. Wanted to leave you with a little tid bit before the weekend festivities begin!

Several years ago I went through a season where I was alone (literally), lonely and on the verge of depression. My wise Aunt Midge called me up and gave me some good/hard advice. She said…

Well, Sarah, the best thing to do to get over feeling sorry for your self is find someone to serve. Find a single mom who needs a free babysitter so she can grocery shop alone. Find a sweet old lady who needs company. Find someone who needs love and you will get over yourself!

This is so true. When we redirect our focus and first look to Jesus (more on this Monday) then pray for direction on how to serve those that Jesus loves, a new light is shed on our own darkness. New perspective begins to form.

  1. Agreed! I’ve read alot on changing my perspective recently…I think God is trying to tell me something. =) Changing perspectives….challenging thoughts…all of it is worth it…and so thought provoking. Its amazing what a little Jesus focus can do in our lives! Congrats on the book girl! Looking forward to the study!

  2. Im so glad she told you that because I think your blog serves alot of us through your inspiration and advice. I wish I had heard Aunt Midge’s advice a few years ago! Thanks for reminding us to stay focused :)

      • Yes I agree as well, I feel like when i am focusing on someone else and their needs or even helping them it gets the focus off of me and I feel more joyful and not so down in the pits and lonley.
