Is This Prayer Legit?

I just love how God answers my prayers about my prayers. I know, that sounds confusing so let me explain.

A month ago I determined to get bold with God and pray an outlandish prayer. I mean this prayer was just beyond. Every time I bring up this prayer request in my convos with Jesus part of me shies away from thinking that He would answer this prayer. The other part of me is like, C’mon God! Let’s do this! Though the timid side of me sometimes wins out and I almost whisper this prayer rather than shout it out in excitement, I still continue to bring this big request to the throne of my King — to the throne of Grace.

I really need to practice what I preach ’cause this verse below about the throne of Grace is all over my book Stress Point!

Let us then fearlessly and confidently and boldly draw near to the throne of grace (the throne of God’s unmerited favor to us sinners), that we may receive mercy [for our failures] and find grace to help in good time for every need [appropriate help and well-timed help, coming just when we need it]. {Hebrews 4:16 Amplified Bible}

Here’s where my crazy mind goes as I’m talking to God about this bold prayer. I probably spend more time talking to Him about why I’m praying this prayer and if this prayer is legit than actually PRAYING! But, then again, God likes us to bring anything and everything to His throne, right? Even the crazy questions! I asked Him this question:

~God, is this prayer legit? Am I praying because I will benefit personally?

I was totally worried about my heart condition here. Was this prayer to my fame and benefit or to His glory?

Here is how The Lord answered me…

~Sarah, seek first MY Kingdom. Seek first My glory and My fame. If your requests are in light of how I will be glorfied, then your prayers are legit. (yes…God did say the word “legit” to me!) (See Matthew 6:33)

He kept telling me through His word…

Knock (pray!) and the door shall be open to you. (Luke 11:8-19) AND align the desires of your HEART with what is in line with my teachings. You will only do this when your FIRST desire is ME…YOUR KING. (Psalm 37:4)

I had my answer to “Is this bold prayer legit?” YES!!!! Because I checked my heart and my desires (which were to make Jesus famous and that He would be known) I can count on God to answer my crazy prayer…IN HIS TIME and IN HIS WAY. (that’s for a whole different blog post…)

Are you questioning your motives in your prayers? Do you have some bold things to ask God but don’t know if they are legit?

Here is just a little checklist to think about when praying crazy big things from God:

~Do you desire God first? (see Psalm 37:4)

~Are you seeking God with your whole heart or are you focused on your own fame or gain? I love how Jeremiah 29:13-14 gives us a hard TRUTH to stand on that God will be found when we seek Him vigorously with our whole heart.

~How much are you depending on God to come through verses handling this prayer in your own strength and in your own way? This was a biggie for me with my bold prayer. I came to a realization that there was no way on earth I could make this dream/prayer come true on my own. COMPLETELY dependent on Jesus to do His THING.

~Do you believe, I mean REALLY believe, that Jesus has the best plans for those who love and surrender their life to Him? (Romans 8:28)

I would love to know what BOLD prayers you are taking to your King and His throne of Grace. Let us know so we can pray with you so leave a comment…

  1. For me Prayer is hard.. I have a hard time sitting and praying to God i get anxious and figgity…. I was just diagnosed with Aspbergers so I think this might have something to do with it.. I am more of a on the go prayer person… i like to pray when i am on my way home from bringing my client home… its such a pretty drive and it takes me about 25 min so i find i get alot of praying done in that time.. although one of my friends wants me to be prayuing after my quiet time too,.. which i have a hard time doing.. any suggestions?

    • Meg…I totally hear ya. I’m one to pray while driving, too. Here’s what I suggest about praying after your quiet time. Get your journal out and just write out your prayers. This helps you stay focused. In Stress Point Journal 5 of each chapter I did written prayer suggestions. It was my hope to encourage the reader to see how they can prayer journal on their own. It is just a starting point. Hope this helps!

  2. I need to learn to just talk to God like I’m talking to a friend and not get worried about what I’m saying to Him or trying to sound fancy. I’m bolding asking God for my life purpose.

    • Laticia–yes…God just wants our heart. Straight up. No need to worry about how you sound when praying. Just hand it over to Him-the good, the bad and the ugly. Hugs!
