A page in my journal…

Every now and then I will share my thought written on the pages of my journal as I read through the Bible. These are raw and real meditations of my heart…nothing fancy…

I’ve been reading through the New Testament with a goal of just soaking in the context and re-familiarizing myself. I came across this little snippet, a bio of sorts, of a man named Cornelius. This somewhat unknown man of no fame nor renown lived a life worthy of being “called out” in the Bible and highlighted. This description of a man little known in the Bible challenges me. I want to be known…

as a devout woman…

as part of a God-fearing family…leader and influencer of those I love…

as one with a heart for the “least of these” (Matthew 25:39-41) who gives till it hurts out of her love for her King…

as one who delights in intimate conversation with Jesus…

Take a look at these few words that described the life of Cornelius who was then used by God later in the chapter to redefine the mission of the Apostle Peter.

Cornelius, a Roman Centurion and a member of a unit called the Italian Cohort, lived in Caesarea. Cornelius was an outsider, but he was a devout man—a God-fearing fellow with a God-fearing family. He consistently and generously gave to the poor, and he practiced constant prayer to God. {Acts 10:1-2 THE VOICE Bible}

Lord, help me to rearrange my goals in life to reflect that of a heart for You alone. May my daily actions reflect a life filled with compassion for your people. May my daily thoughts reflect a heart laser focused on pleasing You alone. May I be an influence to those close to me whom I love dearly as our home reflects Your abundant love. And at the end of my days, may the story of my life–the words written in Your eternal book– make you smile, Lord. Amen.
