The Great Drinking Debate

***THIS IS A RE-POST. THOUGHT IT WOULD BE INTERESTING TO REVISIT THIS TOPIC. WOULD LOVE FOR YOU TO CHECK OUT MY BLOG SERIES: ONE SISTER TO ANOTHER.

To drink or not to drink.  That is the question.  Well…that is really not the question depending on what part of the Bible belt you live in and what social circles you run in, but I digress.

I sat a table with a bunch of sweet younger girlfriends the other day talking about their struggles as a 20-something in regards to “going out” with their friends.  Naturally the topic turned to drinking which peaked my interest since this is such a hot topic no mater what age you are.  The question was: How much do I allow myself to drink, if I do drink at all?  And how do I handle this now that I’m above the legal drinking age, out from under my parent’s wing and free to make my own personal choices on this matter? A Page In My Journal-Psalm 68

Every now and then I share a glimpse into my personal journal writing. It’s not always perfectly polished or grammatically correct, but it is real and raw. My hope is that you will see yourself in my writing and find encouragement.

Blessed be the Lord,Who daily loads us with benefits, The God of our salvation! Selah {Psalm 68:19}

Lord, today I take on YOUR benefits. I take on this load because I know that Your burden is light because You, my mighty King, carry it for me. This is good. You are good. When life gives me burdens, I turn them over to You to carry for I know that You, Lord, make all things work together for my good — my benefit. I may not recognize this burden as a benefit at the moment, but I trust You enough to hand it over to You, Jesus.

I submit this day to You. Let me not squander the gift by waisting time with meaningless activities. Let every minute of today count. Your benefits are more satisfying than any burden or activity that I conjure up on my own. I have this great temptation to fret over my to-do list and I neglect to pray over it and hand this list to You for approval. Lord, here is my list. Here are the things I think are important for me to tackle today. Most of these become burdens to me through out the day, but because You tell me that you load me daily with benefit, not burdens, I will surrender my agenda and trust You to re-prioritize this list.

Here is my day, order it as You will. And forgive me for fretting, Lord. I should know better by now…
