A Page In My Journal-Psalm 68

Every now and then I share a glimpse into my personal journal writing. It’s not always perfectly polished or grammatically correct, but it is real and raw. My hope is that you will see yourself in my writing and find encouragement.

Blessed be the Lord,Who daily loads us with benefits, The God of our salvation! Selah {Psalm 68:19}

Lord, today I take on YOUR benefits. I take on this load because I know that Your burden is light because You, my mighty King, carry it for me. This is good. You are good. When life gives me burdens, I turn them over to You to carry for I know that You, Lord, make all things work together for my good — my benefit. I may not recognize this burden as a benefit at the moment, but I trust You enough to hand it over to You, Jesus.

I submit this day to You. Let me not squander the gift by waisting time with meaningless activities. Let every minute of today count. Your benefits are more satisfying than any burden or activity that I conjure up on my own. I have this great temptation to fret over my to-do list and I neglect to pray over it and hand this list to You for approval. Lord, here is my list. Here are the things I think are important for me to tackle today. Most of these become burdens to me through out the day, but because You tell me that you load me daily with benefit, not burdens, I will surrender my agenda and trust You to re-prioritize this list.

Here is my day, order it as You will. And forgive me for fretting, Lord. I should know better by now…

  1. Sarah! LOVE this! Such a simple struggle we often fail to acknowledge, but need to remind ourselves of daily (if not multiple times a day!). You always bring real life into this blog and it puts my daily life into my spiritual spectrum instead of thinking of everything spiritual as the big picture. Life IS the big picture! ” I may not recognize this burden as a benefit at the moment” is something only trust in the Lord can help and something I personally am awwwwwful about. I am a really positive person, but can allow my worries to overwhelm me in the day to day. (A positive worrier…yes…I DO see the irony here.) Love this!! Love you!!!

    • Holly! Thanks for sharing your struggles on this post. Just because I wrote about this topic doesn’t mean I’ve got it down pat! Ha! Still working on handing Him my burdens.

  2. So simple but important to remember that days can be filled with just ‘stuff’ that we can avoid if we just ask God what He has for us today and follow His plan. With his plan, life is a lot less stressful!

  3. Hi Sarah. I wanted to say thank you for your posts. I got a devotional today from She Seeks with your post about rearranging resolutions, and I decided to start following your blog. I read the above post and had to say AMEN at the end of it (well actually after almost every sentence I was saying AMEN!) This is exactly what I am feeling and where I am at this moment. Thank you for your honesty and insight. Blessings!
