For the last month we’ve been soaking in the Psalms on my LIVE IT OUT Facebook community. {join us!} I usually post quick thoughts straight on that page, but my heart is so full with Psalm 3 today that I need to just blog about it.
Read over Psalm 3 several times asking the Holy Spirit to pull out one aspect or theme that stands out and tugs on your heart. Go ahead and take some time to write out the verse and what it is saying to you. Interacting with the scripture is key to soaking in the Word and letting it seep into your brain. As I soak in this Psalm, I come to a place where I recognize I need to bow low before God — humble myself — and enjoy the place where He alone lifts us to a high and glorious place of pure worship.
The other night I spilled my guts with my Soaking in the Psalms Bible study group at my house — I might as well spill my guts to you all, too! Verse 3 is what I’m soaking in personally…
But You or LORD are a shield about me, my glory, the lifter of my head. {Psalm 3:3 ESV}
Oh Lord, when we bow low before You at your heavenly throne, when we take a physical stance that says I am not worthy, You alone are worthy, this is not a physical stance that degrades us. Because we bow low before our God who is so very HOLY and PURE and lifted HIGH, we are at a place that is lifted up and empowered by the Holy Spirit with dignity and honor. He lifts us up and makes us worthy.
This is not a physical posture that comes natural to us. I remember a time where I dated a guy who completely disrespected and dishonored me, yet I accepted that treatment and fell head over heels for him. At the point when he broke up with me, I physically sat kneeled at his feet, begging this man not to leave me. {This is the spill my guts part. If I were telling you this in person, I’d be so embarrassed that I wouldn’t look you in the eye}
I kneeled in a low and degraded place physically and emotionally.
Will you soak in the thought of a HIGH and MIGHTY God who lifts us up out of the depths and gives us purpose, love, peace and comfort.
Will you fill in the end of this sentence?
I bow low before God and I am lifted high because…
